Working Together: Collaborative Response to Support Immigrant Communities

Looking for strategies to help your library be better prepared to support and connect with immigrant communities? How can the public library respond to a large influx of migrants who are in need of resources? And how can your library provide support when there are language barriers present? Learn about how The New York Public Library responded to the influx of asylum seekers and learn how to create a community engagement plan, driven by outreach, that connects migrants to your library’s programs and services through the use of existing language access tools, the creation of new resources, and leveraging community partnerships.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will have a range of strategies and tactics they can use to connect with and support immigrants.
  • Upon completion, participants will know how to use community partnerships to strengthen their outreach goals.
  • Upon completion, participants will know about a range of communication tools that can be used by staff to support people who have limited understanding of English.
