Place Making in our Communities: Using Libraries to activate our cities, towns and communities

Libraries are such an important part of the cities, towns, and communities we live in, yet we seldom think or understand how their programming, planning, and partnerships have the ability to make places of activity, interaction, and the enjoyment of people. There are so many ways we can activate the spaces in and around our libraries, there are so many ways we can plan and build libraries that integrate and make vibrant the experiences of the people we serve. Come and discuss with library and urban planning experts about visioning and shaping libraries and the spaces around them as a prominent public spaces.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide insights into how library spaces inside and out have the potential to make memorable and significant places and experiences.
  • Demonstrate the critical elements of public place-making and activation of new and existing spaces.
  • Understand your community’s opportunities for public place-making.
