This presentation will describe the efforts of UC Davis and Penn Libraries in testing BIBFRAME resources in production environments. The tests involve integrating BIBFRAME within the Alma ILS by cataloging in BIBFRAME using an RDF editor and exporting the resources into Alma. We will cover the cataloging training we have put in place and our ongoing work on procedures for exporting data to external systems such as OCLC, discovery platforms, and other linked data systems. The integration with external systems will be critical to realizing the benefits of linked data library descriptions on the web. Additionally, we will discuss our collaboration with other institutions to share knowledge and best practices. This session will provide insights into our methodologies for assessing the feasibility of BIBFRAME in production and outline future steps to realize the benefits of linked data in library systems.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to list three actionable steps for implementing linked data in their library to enhance resource discovery and management.
Participants will be able to describe methodologies to evaluate BIBFRAME in their own institutions.
Participants will be able to describe various resources available for training in linked data cataloging.
