First Year and Transfer Experience Librarian Oklahoma State University
The rapid advancement and widespread adoption of generative AI present both immense opportunities and significant challenges, making access to purposeful learning, robust training, and dynamic communities of practice for libraries and librarians more critical than ever. This session delves into the pivotal role that professional library organizations can play in leading the charge—not only in equipping librarians with the skills to navigate this new landscape but also empowering the institutions they serve to adapt and thrive in an AI-driven world. All while (re)centering the library in recognition of the long-held expertise in information literacy and the natural fit for the librarians to be the leader in metaliteracy across the institution.
Drawing on the experience of a collaboration between a professional library association, an accrediting body, and a nonprofit organization focused on assisting board members, executive leaders and other stakeholders in graduate theological schools, the presenters will speak to the immense value derived from working with others and the strengths of collective agency. By spotlighting the practical implementation of this groundbreaking program, this session provides a framework for leveraging these kinds of collaborations across diverse contexts.
Participants will gain insights into how such programs can foster innovation, enhance professional expertise, and strengthen the broader ecosystem of learning and knowledge sharing. Our goal is to inspire libraries and librarians to recognize the transformative potential of generative AI and to catalyze investment in these efforts. By accelerating the adoption and expansion of such initiatives, libraries can position themselves as indispensable hubs of innovation, collaboration, and resilience in a rapidly changing information landscape.
